“Church was part of my life, my whole life. I grew up in a Christian home and came to Christ at an early age. It’s fairly easy to be a Christian when you're in a Christian home and always going to church. It wasn't until college that I said, ‘You know, I need to really make this my own. Am I doing this because this is what Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa taught me, or is this my own?’ It just dawned on me: I'm not thirteen anymore, I have to make my own decision. It was sometime in college that I decided to follow Jesus the best I knew how with the power of the Holy Spirit.
My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. That was really hard, and I didn't know whether she was going to survive. That puts you in a whole different mindset. It was a tough time for her and the family. Our family said, ‘Lord, it's Your will. Your will be done.’ That's not so easy to say when you're thinking that His will might be to take her home to Heaven. He showed Himself faithful and loving. The people of the church really surrounded us with the love of Christ and helped us in a variety of ways. The Lord led us to a cancer doctor in Albuquerque who was a renowned doctor. We saw the Lord's hand in the whole thing and, you know, the Lord can always be trusted, even in our times of tears and trials.
The Lord healed her completely. I realize He doesn't heal everybody, but He did heal her. He is a comforter, and He gives us peace. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” The reason I'm in the ministry is to share the gospel of Christ so people come to know Jesus as their Savior. Scripture has revealed Jesus to be the God-man, fully God and fully man. He came to this earth, and He died on the cross to pay for our sins. He rose from the dead. He offers forgiveness of sins and eternal life to everyone, no matter what background.
People try to gain satisfaction in all different manners: money, sex, sports, drugs, material possessions, or whatever it happens to be. They don't find real satisfaction. Put your faith in Jesus. If I'm wrong about Jesus, then I've had a good life. But if I'm right and you’re wrong, then you may spend eternity in hell. That is a big risk to take. Maybe it's time to consider Jesus. Read the Gospel of John because that tells us all about Jesus and His being the Savior and the King. My name is Pastor John. I’m human, and I surrender.”
