“In my mid-thirties I heard the Holy Spirit say to me ‘you are not really a believer'. The Holy Spirit said ‘you live as though the scriptures do not apply to you, especially in reference to the petty sins that nobody knows about. You’re living as though I am not aware of them.'

At that time, while serving the Lord, I had a secret sin of an ongoing commitment to engaging in pornography. Porn is not really about sex, it’s about worship. You cannot engage in pornographic intimacy without involving the powers of darkness.  You cannot have Jesus and have porn. I wrote a book, Ascent 2 Freedom, How I Ended My Affair With Porn. Barna Group states that 70% of Christian men, 40% of Christian women, and over 50% of Christian pastors are struggling with pornography.  Only 7% of our churches have a program to help people deal with this. I have been delivered from pornography for 27 years.

When you practice that kind of commitment to sin, you are literally unwinding belief from your existence. People don’t go to hell because they do X, Y, and Z. They go to hell because they don’t believe. I had a long-term relationship with religion.  I had some sort of an intellectual faith in God and an intellectual acceptance of the plan of salvation. However, I really didn’t have an intimate relationship with God. I was raised in a Christian home and a good Christian environment. I was someone who was broken inside. There was this double life that I lived.

What it really means to be born again is to step into this 3-dimensional aspect of reality where there is another part of your life that is not alive and then it comes alive. You have a second life that begins. You become alive supernaturally.

One really important scripture to me is Psalm 23. For me, it had to become an identity. Because the Lord is my Shepard, I will not allow myself to identify with need. He drove away my supernatural enemies that were haunting me back when I was involved with porn. He made those supernatural enemies look on while Jesus took care of me. That is what Jesus does. He is my Shepard. “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Children are exposed to pornography so easily. This is a pandemic that touches on all ages. Jesus’ answers lead to transformation. That hope exists. Walk away from the dominions of darkness in your life.

I would advise people to pick up the Bible, and ask God to speak to you through the pages. And ask God to speak to you through your everyday life. That is an extraordinary invitation that God is not going to pass up. My name is Jeffrey, I’m human, and I surrender.”
