“It felt more like a routine than a church because it was really structured.  I was raised in a Dutch Reformed background.  I was very broken at that time. There was a lot of abuse happening in the home.  Growing up was really tough.

I was introduced to New Life Covenant Church.  I really didn't know I was broken. I didn't know that I needed Jesus at that time. I just started going because there were lots of young people, music, drums, and a band. This was really cool for me. They would call out, "Do you want to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior?" That had never happened to me in the church that I used to go to. I stepped forward and gave my life to Jesus Christ.  I took a Bible Foundation course that made me realize that there's more than just going to church.  Church is about building a relationship with God, learning to listen to the Holy Spirit, reading the Word so it will feed your soul. That was a life-changing moment for me. By the Grace of God, my family is still together. Jesus is truly a healer and redeemer.

About 10 years ago, I started a business with a friend and quit my job. The moment I quit my job, I fell pregnant. The business didn't work out.  My husband was also jobless, and we didn't have any savings. We got to a point where my husband and I would share a packet of noodles.  Our food for the whole day. I knew the baby needed me to eat so it could develop. It's amazing how we would eat one meal a day and still God sustained me throughout.  I don't know what my son was eating but he came out very big, he was the biggest baby in the entire ward.

We didn't have any clothes, diapers, wipes, or anything for the baby.  My friends came together and decided to host a baby shower for me on my birthday.  I had been praying.  God’s Word says that He is my provider. I called on Jehovah Jireh, which means “The Lord will provide.” I had so much faith that I was not stressing about it. If anybody asked me, I'd just say, "God will make a way."

Everybody brought something that I needed for the baby. There were diapers, wipes, clothes, washing powder, even fabric softener. I literally felt like God Himself went shopping through all of these people. It was enough to take me to the point where I could leave my baby with someone and go and find a job. For me, that was the moment where I felt like God said, "I'm going to take care of him."

My anchor scripture right now is, "Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7 “ What has helped me build a relationship with Him is knowing that Jesus also had to go through what I'm going through. There's no trouble that you can say, "Oh, Jesus is not going to be able to help me with this one." We have to just be real and honest with Him, and the more we're honest with Him, the more we're also honest with ourselves.  My name is Kudzai, I'm human, and I surrender.”
